I am tottally updating my blog from a sauna. that's right. I am in an underground bathouse, it rocks man. there are some serious saunas here, like 98 degrees...celcius. thats over 200 of your puny ferenheight degrees. word. this place is super expansive and 24 hours, they give you a loaner tshirt and shorts nad there is a retaurant and taa, an internet cafe. all this and more for 7 bucks. I could see living here and sweating myself away in the oven. Anyway, today I subbed in annies school so that i will actually be making money as opposed to spending it, which is a plesant change. the kids run the spectrum from adorable to annoying as all hell, but the moneys good and i am glad to have the job. I will sub another full day tomarrow and then blow my well earned pay on 'club night' which aparently only comes around once a month. noribong here i come. expect hella pictures.

well that was an interesting weekend in Seoul.
It was a weekend of cultural excanges. Annie took me to a really cool buddhist temple, and I took her to the Seoul Racetrack. Some people say annie aint got no skillz. these people don't know that annie can pick the ponies like nobodys buisness. we walked into the book and she picked a winner for the very first rate. she bet a buck and made back almost 30. thats a good payout. over the afternoon she picked 3 out of the 5 winners. i didn't make out nearly as well but we were both smart enough to put money on the horse 'ocean gypsy' (hi morgan!) who rad a good race and got first in the 4th race. Hopefully i will be able to upload a few pics of that soon but my hello software is not werkin like it should. so yeah, after the races we headed downtown for dinner and the weekly punk show. which rocked! its so nice to be in a country that punk isnt dead in yet. in fact, that's my favorite part about korea, it seems to be a land untouched by irony, which if you know me, makes me very happy. over hear when the story slogan is 'super lucky happy day', they mean it, similarly, when they do punk music, the DO it, with loud shouty voices and a strait face, i had a good time fo sho. the only downside was, to get back to the apartment we had to leave at about 10pm which is crazy early for any punk show, (even one starting at 7). the next morning we took the subway out into the 'burbs and visited this huge Zen buddhist temple, prayed a bit, meditated a bit, and listened to an amazingly wise and funny monk. he was aparently very famous and it was a real treat to have been able to hear him spread his wisdom. this much i can share with you: try to spend 10 minutes everyday asking yourself 'who are you' (directed at yourself), try to stay in the moment i guess. good advice, wise man, pictures coming.

Seoul is a crazy place.
it's a pretty intereswting comparison between annie and I, we left the US on the same day. her to korea and a teaching job and furnished appartment, me off wandering the globe and shaking my near terminal case of nihlism. I think to both of us these past weeks have occupied much more real time than the observed time of the people we left back in the states. or some of them anyway. I am looking forward to coming home, to see my house and roomates (one old one new) and being in spring on my own ground. I will need another job, as my savings are almost gone now. and I will probably need a plan of some sort. Eddy sent me an email today saying that he is putting college on hold (again) and going to join up with the traveling carnival (again) so that he can make some cash quick. He invited me to come along as my cash is running low and i told him I would think about it. Part of me is afraid that youth is going away and that I am setting. setting like cement sets. Maybe one day I will go off to another strange trip, another get rich quick sceme that never gets you rich enough quick enough, or some fool travel pipe dream, and find that this is my life. that the desision not to live a life of safty and saving has been made for me by my constant rejection of it. how long can I live bouncing around? how long can luck last? I'm not too concerned now. 'I'm just 22 and i don't mind dyin' as the song goes. but one of these days 22 will turn to 33, I know someday i will want my own bed and a slow life. oh the melodrama of it all. It must be the South Korea weather. sometimes spring feels like autumn in my jostled bones.

ok so things are hard to keep updated sometimes. i will hit the high points.

My Visa request to India was denied. they talked to my bank and found that not only did i not have enough money to survive in a developing country, but that i had no credit either. so they basicly called me riffraff and told me i couldn't stay in their country. lame. the moneys not such a big problem. I have another bank with enough bucks to get me home, but Mauritius, who also considered me riffraff, only issued me a 14 day visa, which expired before i could resubmit my application to india. Long story short, i rerouted my flight and got a plane to Korea after spending 28 hours locked up in the Mumbai airport. fun fun fun. but now i am here. annie has a cool (but super microsmall) apartment, but it's in the middle of the city and near all sorts of cool things to do. how nice it is to be in a real city again. korea is a really funny place. they have a parlor in the mall that looks like a restaurant but is actually a room for people to play board games in. Classic! you just walk in with a couple of friends and say, 'we would like to play scatergories' and boom, it's done. also, as with china, there is a wealth of nonsensical englist shirts and nicknacks. oh the soft spot in my heart that is nonsense shirts. expect to see some of the highlights later.

So here I am in a strange house, using the internet. the house, is my friend Nico's, in Harrowgate. we grew up together and now he has a 10 month old kid, 3 years in the service (marines or is it four), and a wife house and plan. how very very strange. It makes me feel a bit adrift. (don't get me wrong, babywifehouse scares me to death) but here I am between countries and no real plan about moving forward. Islands will help, what i need now is warm rum without ice, crushed lime at the bottom, hot as the sun. I need immediate island help. its no babywifehouse, no real plan, but it's stopping and waiting, resting and doing dream.

So yeah, this might not come as a huge wide eyed suprise to all y'all (and by all y'all i mean myself reading this later) but Prague has some pretty crazy big churches. and i've seen my fair share of churches, big ones, but the three i went to today were all beyond normal description. No wonder this place used to be the capitol of the holy roman empire. siting in the basilica of St. Peter i coulld not loke in any direction without seeing the fruit of years and years of artistic toil. i wish 'cluttered with masterpieces' sounded more grand.

yesterday was fat tuesday, so i met me cellmate at this blues club and caught one of the best blues acts ive ever seen. the singer was about 350 pounds and could sing on the level of his girth. the also played the kazoo. but the piano player was something else. i almost choked on my food. this Czech guy couldnt have been more than 25, but he could play ragtime, blues and honky tonk like he was born doing it. at one point he started playing with only one hand (still sounding better than anyone ive seen play with two) and pulled out a harmonica with the other. blew me away. so yeah, the two people i was eating with liked it a lot two, but i don't think they really got how good the piano player was, which made me look like a dork while saying 'no no no listen to that right there!' but anyway, great.

so yeah, thats the update from prague, blues music. and i woke up today with a new scheme that is crazy and might work anyway. thats it. email me sometime yo.

oh man, superbowl was hell last night.
my new cellmate and I were out all night. we were supposed to get a drink or two until i met this american chick for dinner, but she flaked out on me so we just ended up on an impromptu prague pub crawl. it wouldn't have been so bad If we hadn't known we were going to watch the su[perbowl at midninght. I think we went to 7 pubs, a pizza parlour and a jazz club before finally going to the american bar for kick off. I didn't make it home to my bed until 4:30. what a night. but oh well, tonight is the night i have been waiting for for a long time. Don Giovanni at the national marrionette theater. so psyched am I. ok. time is money. i hope your travels are all going well.

ok so forgive the lack of questions in this post, but this keyboard has no question mark...and the z and the y have switched places...

After a night of heavy drinking and semiseccessful flirting I bearlz got home to mz cell when I noticed there was a new prisoner in the bunk above mine. twilight zone for sure. he is american and he is from boulder, a Naroba graduate, he seems on the level and we have so far gotten along swimmingly. but i met him formaly when i was just out of the shower and a little hung over so i forgot his name. this is embarassing. no matter. I think I§ve gotten the hang of the city center, tomarrow I am to try to get a feel for the suburbs, I hope to go out and explore the less touristy areas and maybe take in a hokey match or something. that girl i was supposed to meet never showed up, I did however meet a few american students that I hope very much to run into again...I am living simply and not spending much. however I am still running out of funds. perhaps I can make a buck or two somehow. I am off now. to see the SUPERBOWL. I am more excited to see it here than I would have bee ni nthe states. smart money is on the partiots, kick off at midnight. rah rah.

So this trip is going to be chaotic if the first two days are any indication.
firstly, I had been planning on leaving the 4th. thats what i had built my travel plans on, leaving the fourth. I'm not sure how exactly I got all turned around, but I was actually schedualed to leave the third. I only cought my mistake 6 hours before takeoff. how embarassing. anyway with a lot of grit and gristle i made it to san francisco and my flight (bearly) and off i went to Prague via London. unfortunatly my duffle bag didn't. as of this post it's been two days and the airport has no idea where my poor clothes are. so that leavwes me, with only my camera bag (which luckily has most all of my essentials in it), tee shirt and jeans, and my coat, in this freezing East European paradise. Things could be worse.

the hostle I'm stayign at is pretty great though. its a refurbished prison. bearly refurbished (the doors are still 2 inch thick triple lock steele.). but there is plenty of hot water and as far as I can tell, out of the 20 or so dorm rooms, I'm the only person staying there, so its cosy but private, for now.

The bars here are pretty super fab fresh. I've already gone to one microbrewery which can only be described as delecious. and a handful of local pubs and bars. mostly expatriot but one or two locals. I'm proud to say I've pretty much mastered the local bus/subway system which, like most other things in this country, people included, is foriegn but for the most part straight forward. Today I haunted all the major coffee houses and tried to get into the spirit of bohemia by drinking esspresso and trying to write. tomarrow will be mosre touresty, with sunday mass at a gothic cathedral in the morning followed by a trip to the czech cubist museum and maybe a puppet show in the afternoon, and, if i don't get around to it tonight, maybe jazz in the evening, i've got a taste for some dixie swing, and one of these places just might have what I need.

as for tonight. i might have an internet date with a political journalism major at a only slightly touristy expat bar.by next post i should have either juicy or heartbreaking details. if you want a postcard, give me your address.
